English

Clear support. Real progress. No pressure.

English can feel frustrating, overwhelming, or hard to get right — especially as expectations increase and exams approach. Our English tutoring is built around helping students understand what they’re doing, why it matters, and how to improve, without pressure or judgement.

English tuition is led by Dan, a secondary-trained English teacher with experience teaching across the full secondary and post-16 range. He has taught Years 7 through to college leavers, working with the National Curriculum, GCSE English, Functional Skills, A Level English Literature, A Level English Language, and A Level Creative Writing.

Sessions are one-to-one, calm, and structured. Whether a student needs to rebuild confidence, improve written responses, or feel more in control of exams and coursework, support is tailored to what they actually need - not a one-size-fits-all approach. Lessons are available online or in person.

KS3

Year 7-9

At Key Stage 3, English is about building strong foundations. Support focuses on reading comprehension, sentence structure, vocabulary, and developing confidence with extended writing.

Tutoring helps pupils understand texts more clearly, organise ideas, and build the skills they’ll rely on later at GCSE. Sessions are paced carefully, supporting students who may feel behind or uncertain, while still stretching those who need more challenge.

KS4

Year 10-11

GCSE English places high demands on reading, writing, and exam technique. Tutoring at KS4 focuses on understanding exam requirements, structuring answers clearly, and improving confidence under timed conditions.

Support can cover English Language, English Literature, or Functional Skills, depending on the student’s pathway. Lessons break down texts, questions, and mark schemes in a clear, manageable way, helping students feel more prepared and less overwhelmed.

KS5

Year 12+ & Adults

At Key Stage 5, English becomes more independent and analytical. Tutoring supports students studying A Level English Literature, A Level English Language, or A Level Creative Writing, helping them develop depth, clarity, and confidence in both written work and coursework.

Support is also available for adult learners, including Functional Skills or confidence-building English for work or further study. Sessions are focused, flexible, and shaped around individual goals.
